General Scholarship Opportunities Outside of GT

ISC2 Scholarship – Graduate

  • Up to 20 scholarships will be awarded with each scholarship award will be between $1,000 – $5,000 USD.
  • Open to international and national students pursuing a master's or doctoral degree
  • GPA between 3.5 - 4.0
  • U.S. citizenship is not required
  • Open to resident and online students

NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program Scholarship

The National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP) recognizes and supports outstanding graduate students who are pursuing research-based master’s and doctoral degrees in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) and STEM education fields within NSF’s mission. The GRFP provides up to three years of support for the graduate education of individuals who have demonstrated their potential for significant achievements in science and engineering research. The GRFP supports over 100 subfields.

The GRFP encourages applications from underrepresented groups, including women, minorities, persons with disabilities, and veterans, in order to broaden and diversify those participating in science and engineering.

Science, Mathematics, and Research for Transformation (SMART) Scholarship Program

The Science, Mathematics, and Research for Transformation (SMART) Scholarship Program is funded by the U.S. Department of Defense and is open to all students pursuing a STEM degree. It is aimed towards students who wish to have careers with the DoD after graduation.

  • Open to U.S. residents only
  • Provides a full scholarship plus an annual stipend between $30,000 - $46,000
  • Summer internships at DoD facilities alongside scientists and engineers
  • For every year of degree funding, the scholar commits to working for a year with the DoD as a civilian employee

Samantha Jennings-Jones Memorial Scholarship

Samantha Jennings-Jones was a dedicated public servant, a deep expert within her domain, and a friend to many in the cybersecurity community. A “plank holder” at the White House Office of the National Cyber Director, Jennings-Jones was a key member of the team that drafted the National Cybersecurity Strategy and a leader on its implementation plan. Jennings-Jones, 36, was killed on March 30, 2023 when she was struck by a vehicle while walking on the sidewalk near her home in Fairfax County.

  • $5,000 award to be applied to tuition, fees, books, and required materials
  • Minimum 3.2 GPA Required
  • Must be pursuing or plan to pursue a cybersecurity degree/ related program
  • Open to U.S. citizens or permanent residents only
  • Full time and part time students can apply
  • Both online and resident students are eligible for this award

Scholarships for Women Studying Information Security

The Scholarships for Women Studying Information Security (SWSIS), are a group of scholarships that provide an award of $2,000 or more for women studying for their bachelor's and master's degrees in fields relating to information security.

The organization offers three scholarships:

  1. PrinSWSIS scholarship- Awarded to a woman aspiring to work in computer security, and by her mere existence, challenging the stereotype of a cyber security professional and helping redefine what it means to be a princess.
  2. Rebecca Gurley Bace SWSIS Scholarship- This award honors the memory of Becky Bace, "The Den Mother of Cyber Security.” Recipients are chosen based on their ability to build community and persevere through hardships. 
  3. Stephen L. Squires SWSIS Scholarship- Dedicated to the memory of Stephen L. Squires, this scholarship is awarded to students pursuing a career in the field of national security and have a background of mentoring or being mentored.

FS-ISAC Women in Cyber Scholarship

  • Recipients receive a $10,000 USD financial award, academic year mentorship from a financial services firm, and attendance at one FS-ISAC regional cybersecurity events.
  • GPA equivalent of 3.0 or higher
  • Applicants must be in the last year of their program
  • Past Georgia Tech recipients include Alicia Biju (2023 recipient, class of 2024), and Subhiksha Ramanathan (2022 recipient, class of 2023)

  • Up to ten scholarships will be awarded
  • Each scholarship award will be between $1,000 – $5,000
  • Must be pursuing, or plan to pursue, a degree with a focus on cybersecurity, information assurance or similar field
  • Open to students enrolled in any undergraduate or graduate program
  • Minimum 3.3 GPA
  • Open to international students, no citizenship requirements
  • May be attending on campus or online.
  • May be attending full time or part time

  • Open to international or DACA female student looking to earn a STEM degree abroad
  • Recipients receive up to $6,000 every year
  • Must be accepted at, or enrolled in, a full-time degree program at a U.S. or Canadian school that MPOWER supports (Georgia Tech is a supported institute)
